Many indus­tries pro­vide ser­vices to their clients in the client’s own home. Unfortunately this can expose staff to seri­ous risks, par­tic­u­larly when only one staff mem­ber is con­duct­ing the visit.

Phys­i­cal attacks or sex­ual assaults to peo­ple or dam­age to equip­ment are obvi­ously dan­ger­ous but seri­ous ver­bal abuse or threats can also dam­age your employ­ees’ health through anx­i­ety or stress.

Whether the aggres­sor is influ­enced by men­tal ill­ness, dis­abil­ity, alco­hol and/or drug abuse, or the assault is pre­med­i­tated or oppor­tunis­tic, organ­i­sa­tions have a duty of care to pro­vide a safe work­ing envi­ron­ment for their staff while con­duct­ing home visiting.
